Claire trained from the age of 3 at The Lorraine Day School of Dance, she took exams and performed regularly. She auditioned successfully for the Royal Academy of Dance to study a Bachelor of Arts in Ballet Education, where she stayed for an additional year to study a PGCE in Dance Teaching. She returned to complete a Masters in Education in 2022 focusing on Somatic rehearsal methodology.
In addition to having a PGCE Claire has registered teachers’ status with the Royal Academy of Dance and International Dance Teachers Association. Claire has taught GCSE and A Level Dance in various schools for over 20years, during which she spent some time self-employed, expanding her teaching to include seated Ballet in care homes, and training to become a Pilates instructor. In the last few years Claire has expanded further in Aerial Hoop and Sling, working her way through the available teacher training since March 2024.
Claire relaunched her freelance career mid 2024 with a shift in focus. She really enjoys teaching adults, and therefore most of her classes are now aimed at this audience. She has had various operations on her hip which made her revaluate the importance of her body being fit and healthy and wants to help others be happy with their bodies and enjoy exercise. Claire has researched into moving as an older adult, including taking an accredited course focusing on Parkinson’s.
Claire’s drive to allow more student dancers to access GCSE Dance amongst the government cuts in the arts funding has led her to launch the out-of-school GCSE option. She also examines for RSL Stage School in Musical Theatre, Jazz & Street Dance which she finds a hugely accessible exam board in. At times she guest adjudicates and also runs regular family events and an annual competition for Dance in Academic Schools.
