Bridging the gap in arts education

Witnessing firsthand the impact of cuts in arts funding while teaching in schools, I've been inspired to make a difference. At Tone & Poise, I am proud to offer GCSE Dance as an outside school qualification. This initiative aims to ensure that students have the opportunity to pursue their passion for dance and achieve academic recognition, even if their school cannot provide the necessary resources. I believe that every young person should have the chance to explore their artistic potential and gain valuable qualifications that will benefit their future.

Two Year Course - Enquire to be in the 2026 cohort

3 x terms - 2.5hrs per week

Tuesday (practical): Heckfield Memorial Hall, Church Ln, Heckfield, Hook RG27 0LG

4.30pm-6pm - all students

Wednesday (theory): Online

4.00-4.55pm - Non-exam entry

4.30pm-5.25pm - Exam entry

Option to attend both at no additional cost

With GCSE Dance and funding of the arts subjects being cut in schools, why not study to gain an extra GCSE out of school. This AQA GCSE Course is recommended to be completed in 2 years, however, students from year 8 or 9 can complete over 3-years to ensure the 40% theory component is up to the expected level required at GCSE. Assessments will be completed throughout the year to ensure both written and practical components are on hitting target grades Students can sit their written paper at their own school, all practical components will be filmed and submitted directed to the exam board.

Claire  has taught GCSE Dance for over 20 years since gaining  her degree and PGCE  from The Royal Academy of Dance. She also became a moderator of GCSE Dance with the AQA exam board  for the practical exam 10years ago. She swapped to marking the written paper to gain more experience in this 2 years ago, but has since returned to practical moderation. Both of these experiences have broaden the understanding of what the exam board is looking for in answering the written paper, and how the marking criteria  targets the practical components.
